Lastly, if you do choose to go to this place, DO NOT under any circumstances, fall for their added warranty traps. I purchased the tire and rim warranty, then a few months later, dented two of my rims and popped two of my tires on a pothole and the ghetto warranty company would not cover anything (even though the tires couldn't hold air because the rims were so dented) because they said it was just "cosmetic damage." And of course, Saint J was nowhere to be found when it came to asking them to help with the warranty they sold me.
I spoke with about 15 Subaru dealerships throughout New England when I was in the process of purchasing my 2016 Crosstrek. I ended up working with Saint J because they got me a great deal on the car that I custom ordered online.
St. Johnsbury Subaru was not where I ended up purchasing my vehicle, but they were by far the most responsive and customer friendly establishment that I contacted. I was looking for a used car and they had one that I wanted in stock so I set up an appointment to see it the next day. Eugene Darling, who helped me out, was very helpful, except then the car was sold the evening I contacted them and so I couldn't get it.
The low price was the one good thing I got from this place. After putting in the order for the car, I contacted the salesperson to make sure they were going to put on everything I ordered, such as speaker upgrades, rearview mirror upgrade etc. and the salesperson would not tell me if they were or not. He either wouldn't answer or would say "Everything comes standard." Which it doesn't since I had to add the feature to the car online.
Next time I'll spend the extra $1000 to work with a more professional dealership.
Once I get the call that the car is at the dealership, the salesperson I had been working with wouldn't give me the time of day and asked a different salesperson to finish everything with me. This salesperson was the MOST unprofessional person I've ever had to work with. Every other word was a curse word and when I mentioned I wished I could have gotten my car with a sunroof his response was "Yeah you say that, but it's not like you would ever use it." Also, I know this is very insignificant, but it still bothered me. I asked the first salesperson that they don't put the ugly "SaintJ" sticker on the car, and that I would not drive the car off the lot with the sticker on it. Of course my request fell of def ears and the sticker was on it. Luckily the detailers were kind enough to pull the sticker off without ruining the paint.
Sold me a unsafe car in Aug 2012 ... it hasn’t been inspected since late summer 2013. I am a disabled vet and need safe wheels for making needed therapy appointments at the VAMC in White River
Sales people are eager to sell you a car. They may be a little pushy. After a six hour day at Saint Jay Subaru they agreed to deliver a car to me. They did three days later without an inspection sticker. Ive been trying to get hold of them to resolve this minor issue, and it seems to be taking much longer than need be. I really see Saint Jay Subaru pushing to sell you a car unlike their advertisement. What I really have a problem with is their organizational and Customer service. I have literally talked to four different people and have been told they would get back to me at a reasonable time and have been left having to call them back having to start my story over. I believe I got a good deal on a vehicle but the hassle is unacceptable for a business.
I don't fault them for that because I put no claim down on the vehicle, although I wish I had been more explicit when talking to them about wanting to see them. That being said, Eugene then referred me to his manager and the three of us were in great contact throughout the week.
As I said, the service I received was excellent and professional, but it was a bummer the vehicle I was looking at was sold without me getting a warning first.
I hardly know what to say, the book value of my car was nearly $5,000 and yet their offer was $750. Considering they wouldn't give but a few dollars off of retail for the car they were trying to sell me I felt like I was being conned. In good conscience I don't think I would recommend a friend buying a vehicle here.
